After playing Star Trek Online for nearly three weeks Rik & Mat have unlocked the ability to record a podcast on Deep Space Nine. They also talk to Gaming Bob about playing games and Developer Dave about designing them!

Mat has been to the shop to buy more rubbish games he’ll never play while Rik has got him playing Star Trek Online by virtue of the Hailing Frequency competition (Rik won the prize of a Deluxe Edition, gave it to Mat, and watched him totally ignore all the bonus goodies – and he’s really annoyed about it – but hasn’t said anything).

We mess about in game and give our impressions. We also try to explore (ie; go somewhere without a mission!) Does the game support this radical concept? Listen in to find out!

Not a new episode – sorry about that. We have a show recorded (just need to edit it!). In the meantime, I thought I’d post up this Star Trek Online Audio Short.

What can I say – I’m excited about Star Trek Online and when I learned about The Hailing Frequency competition to win a copy I just had to take a shot at it! This audio short is my entry.

Hailing Frequency by the way is a brilliant Star Trek website that’s doing a ton of stuff about STO at the moment. Honestly, some of the stuff they’re running with live broadcasts, chat and user interaction is pretty incredible – must take a ton of technical know-how and organisational skill.

However, it should be considered “fan-fiction” (my first attempt at this!) and from what I understand the Star Trek People (hey you guys!) are fairly relaxed about fans creating work that includes licenced material – so long as it’s non-profit – which this is.

Rik attempts to give structure to the show and Mat does his very best to de-rail that notion. A trio of fairly mundane topics surprise us by giving rise to some remotely stimulating discussion! For us perhaps only! We’re certainly enjoying ourselves doing these podcasts…it’s addictive, like those computer games the young people play! Or so I’m told.
